DNA testing for breed mixes is such a fun part of getting a new rescue puppy or dog. But while the health screening piece of DNA testing might not be fun, it is extremely important. In our case Baby Betty has one copy of the MDR1 gene variant. This means that we have to be very careful when giving her certain types of medications. Since this is more common in herding breeds, I'm not surprised with the results, but I am happy to confirm so that I know how to manage her healthcare in the future. D
